The Christmas meal is an important at NightShift Street Ministries. We gather to bring our very best to those experiencing homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental illness.
With the help of donors, volunteers and staff, NightShift served a special turkey dinner, along with treats and gifts, to our friends going through hard times. Together, we served almost 200 people in the city centres of Surrey and Langley.
Christmas Dinner is a meaningful one for our friends on the street for the same reasons as for all of us. It can bring back nostalgic memories of friends and family, and it also highlights the importance a community coming together to serve each other. And, with Christmas, comes the mysterious hope of God, who loves us and came to live right in our neighbourhood. Emmanuel!
At NightShift’s Christmas Dinners in Surrey and Langley, we experienced the best in community – those who were serving others, and those who were willing to be served. We must endeavour to do both – be served and also to serve. That’s what is takes to create true, meaningful community, and we see it everyday at NightShift.
Merry Christmas to all!
