What We Do
We exist to care for the holistic needs of others, 365 days a year, by building relationships and restoring lives through outreach, counselling, education and transitional housing.
NightShift has been providing nightly outreach for people stuck in the cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness in the Whalley neighbourhood of Surrey since 2004. We do this with hot meals, warm clothing, conversation, basic nursing and counselling, and most importantly, unconditional love.
Our mission is to love unconditionally and help each other find hope and purpose.
We put people first. Our outreach helps people with different life stories come together, get to know each other and grow in compassion. We see this happen in all areas of our ministry, from people living on the street, to volunteers, donors and staff.
NightShift relies on volunteers to provide a holistic approach to alleviate poverty and homelessness and to offer hope and a sense of purpose for all people. With the help of our volunteer team, we provide:
Outreach and Care Bus
Outreach happens every night of the year, and some nights it includes our Care Bus – a mobile RV unit providing free basic nursing, access to counselling, prayer and even a library.
Education and Programs
Our education mission includes leadership training, programs and support groups to meet emotional, spiritual and practical needs of people from all walks of life.
Counselling and the Care Program
Anyone ready to take the next step in wellness is able to access affordable and confidential counselling through The Care Centre. One-on-one, couple and group counselling for all ages is provided through Christian, registered counsellors. We can put you in touch regardless of background, financial status or spiritual belief.
Taste of Heaven – social enterprise
Our Taste of Heaven food truck serves gourmet sausages and scrumptious homemade condiments around the Lower Mainland, at local festivals and events. Our “feeding hungry hearts” program helps us deliver the message of love, hope and purpose in the community and with every meal purchased we are raising funds and awareness to support our outreach programs.
Sisters Thrift Boutique – social enterprise
Sisters, our boutique-style thrift store manages the clothing generously donated to the ministry through our donation bins, and oversees the distribution through our nightly outreach, while selling the higher end, quality fashion items and accessories that are not handed out on the street. Customers can buy direct from our online shop, or browse the new / nearly new clothes posted daily and use a unique “place on hold” feature before heading over to the Guildford store for a non-committal spree. Sisters provides free clothes for special causes, offers a retail environment for people re-entering the workforce and all profits support our women’s initiatives at NightShift.
Our special events bring awareness and help us raise funds for all areas of our ministry.
Want to get involved? We would love to welcome you into the NightShift community. Attend one of our informal Welcome Nights or call the office at 604-953-1114 (9-5, Mon-Fri) or email NightShift at any time!
We endeavour to reflect and demonstrate the Christian values and principles of integrity, humility, perseverance and unity.
