NightShift 2013

by NightShift

Music is good for the soul. It can boost energy, increase happiness and mental alertness, and best of all, it can help us feel connected to each other and to God.

NightShift’s Music Ministry provides space for musicians to play worshipful and uplifting music during the evening outreach meal in Surrey. We often notice a change in moods and the shift in the atmosphere when music is incorporated into our nightly meal. NightShift is grateful for our talented music ministry leaders, who bless our outreach lot with songs of worship and praise.

One such worship leader is NightShift’s longtime friend, Andy Park. A well-known Christian musician, Andy first began serving with NightShift after being involved with a little church that was meeting in the front room of NightShift’s old building on 135a Street. Through this connection it became obvious to Andy that he should be using his gifts to serve NightShift’s community.

Andy shares in his book, The Worship Journey, “Our band members love to play good music together and see people touched by God—mostly people who wouldn’t go inside a regular church.  This is the closest thing to church they have.”

Many of NightShift’s friends on the street are genuinely moved by our Music Ministry. We’ve seen people brought to tears, inspired to take communion, or simply humming along and tapping a toe.

As Andy says in The Worship Journey: “Some of the melodies we play stick in their memories, because words sung to catchy music are easily remembered.  As we sing, we are putting the Word of God into people’s minds and souls – we are giving them life-changing ideas.  I can imagine some of them not being able to get our songs out of their head.  They’ll wake up the next morning humming the tune and thinking about the words.”

Thank you to Andy Park and band, and NightShift’s other wonderful music ministry leaders for humbly serving and sharing God’s words and love with our friends on the street.
