Club Freedom at NightShift

The Welcome Centre at NightShift Street Ministries is a well-used and well-loved space! In addition to providing a warm, welcoming drop-in centre every weekday, and monthly offerings like movie night and haircuts, NightShift is honoured to share our Welcome Centre space with other ministries, like the wonderful team at Club Freedom.

An initiative born out of CityReach Care Society in Vancouver, Club Freedom Surrey meets every Sunday in our Welcome Centre to host a Christ-centred worship service and community meal with friends on the street. Club Freedom provides a safe, welcoming environment with the opportunity to receive mentorship, prayer and community resource referrals.

“It’s not just a feeding program – it’s a community. It’s really like a church in its own right. It’s a spiritual community for people who might not feel comfortable or welcomed in a traditional church environment,” Craig Savage, Tri-Cities and Surrey Director of Club Freedom explains.

Club Freedom has been blessing its Vancouver community for the past 21 years and they don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Long term, Club Freedom aims to expand their reach, to lead more people to Christ, to see lives transformed, and to create an awareness and sense of compassion for the folks they serve.

Last year Club Freedom saw there was a need to expand their reach to the Central Surrey/Whalley area. Because of similar values and goals, in November 2021 Club Freedom and NightShift agreed to partner together.

Here at NightShift, we deeply value unity and relationships, like we’ve found with the folks at Club Freedom.

Summer Hockin, our Volunteer Services and Outreach Manager, explains why NightShift is blessed to share the space we have with Club Freedom.

“Club Freedom is so great at meeting people where they are at. They provide an avenue to allow others to hear more about the gospel as they are ready and willing. It’s so special that Club Freedom offers an opportunity for our friends to come inside to enjoy a meal and connection, which helps foster community.”

Through this partnership, it’s been an honour to have Club Freedom as a part of the NightShift community. We have seen the ways that they have built relationships and impacted the lives of our friends on the street and for that we are so grateful.
