“He’d been dressing his wound, by himself, with toilet paper.”
It was a Friday night in Whalley and Paul, one of our street friends, came to the Care Bus with severely swollen legs and an open wound. When he went to the hospital, they wouldn’t give him the time of day. He felt frustrated. The doctors at the walk-in clinic were busy and around him people were laughing at him. He’d been dressing his wound, by himself, with toilet paper. He didn’t want to go back to the hospital and be humiliated again, so when he came to the Care Bus, he came tentatively, not too sure of how he would be treated. NightShift volunteers tenderly cleaned and dressed his wound and treated him with respect. He was so thankful. Paul was reminded of the dignity of his personhood and saw a glimpse of the unconditional love of God. Paul’s story is just one of the many we encounter on a typical Friday night at NightShift. The Care Bus is an important ministry to our street friends, providing them with nursing and health services, and most of all dignity and respect. They don’t have to go to a doctor or a hospital. They can get basic care, nutritional advice and even counseling right in their own neighbourhood. BUT: Last week, our Care Bus had to go to the “doctor.” It was leaky and needed some tender loving care. The costs added up and now we now have an outstanding balance of $2,400 that we owe to the dealership who fixed the leaks on our Care Bus. We can’t have our bus back and serve the needs on the streets until we’ve paid the bill in full. When the Care Bus is not in service, our street friends lose out. So, we need your help to get our bus back ASAP. Would you help us Free the Bus, so our Care Bus can get back on the street? Can you give $10? $20? $50? $100? $2,400? Together we can do this. Every and any amount will help us Free the Bus. Please, our street friends count on us. Please donate here:
Please specify under “purpose” that your donation is for the Care Bus. We can provide income tax receipts for donations over $15. We’d love to have the Care Bus back on the street by Friday night. Can you help? Other ways to help: – Could you help us spread the word on Facebook, Twitter or your favourite social media outlets? – Could you please pray? Thank you so much for your generosity!
