Bitter weather, sweet shelter

by NightShift

With temperatures plummeting and the additional wind-chill factor making a night on the streets unbearable and deadly, Extreme Weather Response shelters are remaining open around the Lower Mainland in an effort to give everyone temporary respite from the elements. We thank our faithful volunteers, and everyone who came forward in response to this week’s call-out for support, for providing for those in need in Whalley. Our homeless friends need all the love they can get. During the cold snap, our Emergency Weather Response shelter opens to our street friends nightly at 9:00 pm, right after we finish serving our usual nightly fare of hot meals, clean clothes and the offer of friendship. We are grateful to every individual and group who has been providing extra blankets and especially to the Real Estate Board, whose annual blanket drive regularly provides a staple of warm clothing and blankets for the winter months.
